State geological survey
State geological survey
The Czech Geological Survey (CGS) is a state-funded organization established by the Ministry of the Environment (MoE) to provide the state geological service for the Czech Republic according to section 17 of Act No. 62/1988 Coll., on geological work (Geological Act), as amended.
The state geological service involves the collection, processing, storage and provision of data on the geological composition of the Czech Republic’s territory, on the protection and use of natural mineral resources and groundwater resources, and on geohazards. These activities are conducted based on specific legislative provisions such as individual agendas, specified further in this section. All activities are listed in the organisation‘s founding charter.
The CGS has long emphasized the use of modern technologies to collect, process and provide data. Access to the outputs of the state geological service and other expert activities are provided mainly via web services and applications. The range of web services and their topics are given in the Maps and data section.
