The Czech Geological Survey (CGS) collects, permanently stores, processes, evaluates and provides access to geological documentation and the results of geological projects conducted by individuals and organizatons in the Czech Republic in accordance with relevant laws and decrees.
The aim of the state geological service is to allow for geological documentation to be used primarily in providing expert assistance to public authorities, free information access to individuals and organizatons, and for scientific purposes.
Handover of written geological documents to the Geofond Archive
Geological documents and geological project results within the scope of comprehensive geological documentation may be physically handed over in printed form to the Geofond Archive or sent to the address at Kostelní 26, 170 00 Prague 7.
All unpublished written geological documents stored in the archive are publicly available to researchers for on-site study. The Archives page provides details on holdings, services and search options.
Core samples
The CGS receives, stores and provides access to rock samples from boreholes or entire drill cores, which are of geological significance. The Core samples page provides detailed information on samples stored in repositories, handover conditions, access and possible sampling.
Geophysical databases and documentation
The CGS office in Brno houses the assessments archive of the former Geofyzika a. s. Brno, and maintaines the following geophysical databases: magnetometry, radiometry, gamma spectrometry, gravimetry, petrophysics, seismology, and geoelectrics – vertical electrical sounding, including map depictions in the Geophysical Measurements application.
