The Czech Geological Survey is the largest publisher of geological literature in the Czech Republic. Books produced by the CGS address practically all geoscience fields.

The science books have a traditionally high standard, thereby serving as textbooks for generations of geologists and professionals in related sciences.

Anyone who loves nature and travel, collects rocks or fossils, or who pans for gold enjoys reading popular science publications.

Many works are authored by CGS employees – for instance, travel publications are based on the memoirs of CGS specialists of their professional activities in far-away places such as Africa or Greenland.

Science books

Science books produced by the CGS Publishing House address all geosciences and are intended for experts, students of natural sciences, and all those interested in such topics.

The authors of the publications are mostly CGS specialists and the books maintain a traditionally high standard, which make them ideal textbooks for entire generations of geologists and specialists in related sciences.

The expert and scientific works published at the CGS include Special Papers – a sequentially numbered edition covering a wide range of geological topics. Individual volumes address various aspects of regional geology, petrography, sedimentology, paleontology, geophysics or particular environmental protection issues, such as radon risk. Older issues of the Special Papers are available on the edition‘s website and newer issues in the CGS eShop.

Popular science publications are intended for anyone who enjoys nature, travelling and who likes discovering the natural wealth which surrounds us and diverse landscapes. Collectors of minerals, rocks and fossils as well as avid gold prospectors who enjoy panning for gold in streams and rivers will find them to their liking. Many of the works are authored by CGS employees  for instance, CGS specialists recall their experiences in far-flung places, such as Africa or Greenland, in travel publications.

Unique are the publications dedicated to important representatives of geology, which are published in the Personalities of Czech Geology series. Other popular editions are Brochures with Augmented Reality and Geology of Protected Landscape Areas.
