The Czech Geological Survey (CGS), as part of the performance of the state geological survey, provides data – specifically territorial analytical documents for spatial planning – and prepares expert assessments, statements, and analyses.

Related applications
The map application provides basic information for land-use planning according to law § 64 of Act no. 283/2021 Coll. (the Building Act). It includes data of mining areas, protected areas of mineral deposits, areas protected against specific impacts on the Earth’s crust, reserved deposits and approved prognostic resources, registered mine workings (old mine workings), undermined areas, landslide areas, and unprotected mineral deposits. In addition, there is a layer of protection zones of spa springs (Ministry of Health).
The map application providing access to information on experts opinions of Czech Geological Survey (CGS). This expert opinions were drawn up by CGS district geologists and associated specialists according to the equirements of government authorities of the Czech Republic of all levels.
Provided services
Expert assessments
These serve as expert support for political, economic, and environmental decision-making by public authorities and other authorized entities in the public interest. Their processing is coordinated by the Regional Geologists Administration (SOG), an internal body of the CGS. The SOG receives requests, distributes tasks among specialists, and ensures the delivery of completed reports.
Expert statements
These statements serve as supporting documents for applications to permit construction within protected mineral deposit areas. They contain information about the results of geological work that may influence spatial planning documentation and the environment, in accordance with Section 13 of the Geological Works Act and the Czech Geological Authority. We prepare these only in cases where the Czech Geological Survey (CGS), as an organization, is entrusted with the protection and registration of an exclusive mineral deposit according to Section 17 of the Geological Works and Czech Geological Office Act. They function as an “organizational statement” (see Section 19 of Act No. 439/1992 Coll.) and include a proposal outlining conditions protecting the exclusive deposit during subsequent construction proceedings. CGS is not a party to the construction proceedings.
Exclusive mineral deposits and protected deposit areas are displayed in the interactive public web application Mineral Resources Information System (only in Czech version).
Permissions for constructions and facilities within a protected mineral deposit area that are not related to mining can only be issued by the relevant authority (building authority) with the consent of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic, which consults the matter with the relevant regional mining authority (§18 and §19 of the Mining Act).
Territorial data
CGS provides datasets to public authorities for preparing spatial analytical documents (referred to as “territorial data” pursuant to §64 of the Building Act). More information is available on the CGS Data Provision page.
Good to know
- CGS accepts requests exclusively via the data mailbox siyhmun, or via email at podatelna@geology.cz.
- For consultations regarding the necessity and legitimacy of an expert opinion or statement, you can use the contacts listed on this page, or utilize the Ask a Geologist service.
- Some outputs may require a longer processing time.
Assessment and expert activities
Expert opinions, assessments, and arbitrations are prepared by regional geologists, hydrogeologists, as well as economic and engineering geologists.
They collaborate with both central and regional authorities on geological issues and provide expert statements on geohazards (especially landslides), spatial planning, the environmental impact of construction, and other related topics. Additionally, they offer consultations to public authorities and other authorized entities.
The Annual Report of the Czech Geological Survey routinely includes statistical information on how many expert assessments are prepared.
