The repositories of the Czech Geological Survey house a singular collection of core samples, including unique rock samples or continuous drill cores from structural and other significant boreholes drilled in the Czech Republic since 1920. The samples from boreholes, drill cores or parts thereof, are permanently stored in specialized sample containers and linked to written documents, which are available in the CGS archive.
Access
Access to all stored samples is possible by prior arrangement with staff members in charge directly at the individual repositories located in Lužná, Kamenná, Stratov, Jeseník and Jílové. A documented material sample being viewed may be sampled only in the presence of an authorized employee of the Geofond Department. The sampling is documented in the sample registration forms, which also include a record of visitors to the sample repositories and of the purpose of their study. The conditions of access to the material samples are specified in the Loan and Study Room Policy for Collections, Drill Cores and Samples of the CGS (Geofond Department).
