The Year of Planet Earth ceremonial launch was organized on February 11 by the preparatory team made of the representatives of the geoscientific Year of Planet Earth in the Czech Republic, the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Centre for Administration and Operations of the ASCR, v. v. i. in the premises of the Czech Academy of Sciences. On this occasion, a press conference took place supported by Czech Television as well as Czech Radio followed by the launch of the preliminary installation of an itinerant exhibition named "Mighty and Vulnerable Earth". The opening statements were delivered by the acting Czech Geological Survey director, Dr Petr Mixa, the Czech Year of Planet Earth coordinator, Dr Veronika Štědrá, and Prague-Troja City District Mayor, ing arch.
