This year's GeoCoop 2026 expedition in Georgia has been successfully completed! 🏔️

Extremely intensive two weeks of fieldwork, knowledge sharing, and international partnership building under a project supported by the International Visegrad Fund are behind us. The team of experts from the Czech Geological Survey (CGS), Slovak HES-COMGEO, Polish PIG-PIB, and Georgian NEA has met all planned goals!
Following a successful kick-off workshop at NEA, we investigated key slope deformations around the capital city of Tbilisi. Among other sites, we visited the remediated Akhaldaba landslide, which caused significant damage during the 2015 floods. In the Imereti region of western Georgia, we documented in detail the massive landslides in the villages of Kursebi, Shukruti, and Khemaghali. The primary goal of the expedition was the initial geohazard reconnaissance in the remote Tusheti region. We also highly appreciate the opportunity to present our project and its objectives at both the Slovak and Czech Embassies in Tbilisi, where we received a wonderful welcome. Just as important as the work were the people behind it. Working with such an enthusiastic and supportive team made this expedition truly unforgettable, and we are deeply grateful to our Georgian colleagues for their hospitality and cooperation.
The project continues, and we are now looking forward to the next phase of GeoCoop, which will take us to Slovakia in September!
