The winding-up of the Melechov testing site project
Josef Procháska
At the end of the year 2006, the project called “The execution of geological and other activities at the testing site of Melechov Massive – Stage 2” finished.
The task was realized to the order of the Authorities of Radioactive Waste Disposal Site, with the most suitable place of work – the Department of Applied Geology (No. 445) of the Geological Division of the CGS. It was elaborated not only by the CGS’s experts, but also by the researchers of about ten Czech and foreign organizations, which presumably took three years. The geological research of the Melechov Massive, comprising a wide range of methods from the air to the surface as far as deep drilling, has recently represented – in its complexity – a unique event in the CGS. To successfully complete the project it was necessary to find out surface and drilling polygons of defined, accurate parameters, which would be used for future testing methods in connection with deep high-radioactive disposal site in the Czech Republic. The position of this disposal site, however, is not projected on the testing site.
