During the 19th to 22th July 2013 Prague hosted the Spring Meeting of the Foraminifera and Nannofossil groups of the The Micropalaeontological Society (TMS), topic: “The micropalaeontological record of global change: from epicontinental seas to open ocean”. The meeting was organised by the Geological Department of the Charles University in cooperation with the Czech Geological Survey. Marine biologists and palaeontologists presented new results from research of fossil and modern foraminifers and calcareous nannoplankton and their practical applications. Study of microfossils provides important information on the age and paleoenvironment that are of fundamental importance for regional geological survey of marine sedimentary formations. Knowledge of the modern ocean and its processes helps to understand and interpret the fossil record.
