From 13 to 17 April 2026, the Czech Geological Survey organized in Prague a meeting of the Geological Mapping and Modelling Expert Group (GMMEG) of EuroGeoSurveys, along with the plenary meeting of WP6 of the GSEU project. The event took place at the premises of the Institute of Geophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Spořilov.
Approximately 30 experts attended in person, with a further 15 joining online, representing a total of 27 European geological surveys. The programme included presentations of projects focused on geological mapping and modelling, discussions on current topics including the use of artificial intelligence in processing geological data, and updates on the progress of the GSEU project. The meeting also featured working workshops focused on specific tasks and discussions on updating the SRIA strategic document and related projects.
A particularly well-received part of the programme was the hands-on training on ForGeo, a QGIS extension for geological modelling, led by experts from the French Geological Survey (BRGM). Participants also appreciated the accompanying programme, which included a geological walk through Prague’s historic centre and a professional field trip to Kutná Hora.
