In late June/early July 2024, we successfully concluded the first field mission to Georgia in order to fulfill the goals of the development project Georgia 2024 supported by the Czech Challenge fund 2023 program.
The core activity of the mission was a two-day intensive workshop held at the NEA headquarters. During this workshop, we presented Landslider, a newly developed tool designed for the automatic detection of landscape changes using satellite image comparisons.
In the second part of the workshop, the robust GIS project was presented as a database of all acquired data on the Khevsureti model area, from which maps of geological hazards will be generated.
The workshop was followed by a five-day field mapping campaign. The main objective was to map geological hazards along the only access road to the Khevsureti area while training our Georgian colleagues in landslide mapping. The data will be used to create an engineering-geological hazard map of the region. The functionality of the Landslider analysis tool in real conditions was also verified.
At the end of our mission, a meeting was held at the Czech embassy, where the current project was presented and possible directions for further development projects for Georgia were discussed.
