New geological data catalogues for Bosnia and Herzegovina
New geological data catalogues for Bosnia and Herzegovina
Olga Moravcová
As part of the Innovation of Geological Information Systems in Bosnia and Herzegovina development project, funded by the Czech Development Agency and carried out by the Czech Geological Survey (CGS), metadata catalogues have been created for the geological surveys of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FZZG) and the Republic of Srpska (RZZGI). These were created in cooperation with partners in Bosnia. Tailored to their operational needs, this solution represents a significant step towards enhancing the management, sharing and international interoperability of geological data.
Since 2023, the project has involved preparing data sources, establishing methods for working with metadata, building the capacity of partner institutions, and providing professional training. The technological core of the solution is the MIcKA system for managing spatial data according to international standards. It has been adapted for a multilingual environment and integrated into the newly built IT infrastructure. Olga Moravcová is the guarantor of this activity on behalf of the CGS.
This work culminated in the official handover of the catalogues in early February 2026. These new tools enable users to navigate the data systematically and use it effectively for professional studies, spatial planning, and assessing natural risks and mineral resources.
The CGS will continue to be an expert partner in the next phase of system development, preparing the integration of Bosnian metadata into the European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI).
