The Conference of the Geoscience Information Consortium (GIC) was held in Bern in June 4–8, 2007, under the patronage of the Swiss Geological Survey – part of the Federal Office of Topography (Swisstopo). The organization associates managers and heads of informatics departments of individual geological surveys in the world. At this year’s, 22nd in sequence, conference, there were one or two representatives of each of the twenty-six countries of all the world, who were also to elect a new chairman of the organization. It is a significant appreciation of all the Czech Geological Survey that Dr Robert Tomas has been unanimously elected Chairman of the GIC for a three-year period.
