Geologists from Bosnian Geological Surveys Complete Internship at CGS
Lucie Koucká
From July 27 to 31, the Czech Geological Survey (CGS) welcomed young professionals from the geological surveys of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Armin Jahić (FZZG) and Bojana Golić Ilić (RZZGI) – at its Barrandov facility in Prague. The internship took place as part of the project “Innovation of Geological Information Systems in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, which is funded by the Czech Development Agency (CzDA). Their visit aimed to gain new experience, share know-how, and get hands-on practice with modern analytical methods used by the CGS.
An intensive one-week program focused primarily on geochemistry and laboratory methods was prepared for our international colleagues. During their stay, they gained practical experience with X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron microscopy, and portable XRF spectrometry. They also learned about U-Pb dating of rock samples, and the entire program concluded with a joint field trip. Our colleagues really appreciated the internship and left feeling excited and full of new knowledge.
We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank František Laufek and his team – Nikol Novotná, Ilja Knésl, Michal Poňavič, and other colleagues – for their time, willingness, and excellent transfer of professional expertise. Our thanks also go to Anna Vymazalová for her initiative and for arranging this internship.
We believe that the newly acquired knowledge will be highly beneficial for our colleagues from Bosnia and Herzegovina in their future work, and that this internship will further strengthen our international cooperation.
