Geological 3D model for planning of the Erzgebirge railway tunnel available for interactive online viewing
Jan Franěk
A new geological 3D model for planning of Czech part of the Erzgebirge railway tunnel has been added to the overview map on the web page 3D geological models . This 27 km long underground construction represents a crucial part of the future high-speed railway connection between Prague and Dresden. You can view the model online at the link below, directly in your web browser (Firefox, Edge, ...; Czech version only). Majority of the modelled area is located in the crystalline rocks of the Erzgebirge Mountains, which belong to the Saxoturingian Unit. The modelled area is divided into the Czech and German parts, both were modelled separately by the Czech and Saxonian Geological Survey and merged in the end. The model is used to optimize the course of the planned tunnel route with regard to the identification of geotechnical, geological and hydrogeological safety risks. In the 3D viewer, try, for example, your own interactive creation of geological sections of the model in the right toolbar – “Analyzovat” tool – “Rozdělit objekty“ tab.
