On 27 March 2025, a full-day plenary meeting of the Spatial Information Expert Group (SIEG) under the umbrella of EuroGeoSurveys (EGS) was held in Prague. The event took place in the well-equipped and welcoming lecture hall of the Institute of Geophysics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, located in the Spořilov district of the city.
A total of 35 experts from 17 European countries participated in the meeting – 26 attended in person, while 9 joined remotely via videoconference. The agenda focused on current organisational and strategic matters related to SIEG's role within the new governance structure of the European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI). Discussions also covered the group's responsibilities towards newly established bodies such as the EGDI Editorial Board and the Network of National Metadata Coordinators.
A significant part of the programme was dedicated to presentations of priority areas defined by working teams for the chapter on Sustainable Geological Data Infrastructure within the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of EuroGeoSurveys. Special attention was given to the EPOS infrastructure (European Plate Observing System), including a practical demonstration of the EPOS portal and its functionalities.
The plenary meeting in Prague provided an important platform not only for coordinating SIEG’s activities, but also for exchanging expertise, strengthening international cooperation, and planning future steps toward the development of an open and sustainable geospatial data infrastructure in Europe.
