During the November 18-21, 2007 AAPG & AAPG European Region Energy Conference and Exhibition under the general theme „Challenge Our Myths“ took a place in Athens, Greece in the Megaron Athens International Conference Centre build in 2004 for the summer olympic games. The conference was sponsored by all major oil players including Chevron, Shell, ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco, Statoil Hydro, Total and many others, from the middle Europe regional point of view also Hungarian company MOL Ltd. One seat in the International OrgCom was taken by Vlastimila Dvorakova (Czech Geological Survey) who was the Technical Programme & Short Courses Chair also representing the European region of AAPG holding the Treasurer and Secretary position and who took a special AAPG award For Technical Excellence and Practical Perspective during the Opening Ceremony of this conference. This conference was well attended by 1283 participants from all around the world. They had a chance to listen to the papers in five parallel sessions representing 9 technical and 12 regional themes. The exhibition took a part of the conference as well giving a chance to 61 exhibitors to present their research or products. The special Management Forum with many invited speakers and Featured Speaker Luncheon and Prof. Johnem Underhill giving a lecture untitled „Where was Odysseus homeland?“ were all special events presented at the conference along with four pre and post conference field excursions and fours pre and post conference short courses all well attended. One of the post conference short courses was prepared and leaded by Juraj Francu a Vlastimila Dvorakova (both Czech Geological Survey) under the title: Basin Modeling Integrated with Geochemistry as an Aid to Predict Petroleum Systems Efficiency and to Reduce Exploration Risk and attended by many students and professionals from the oil companies, agencies and state institutions from 11 countries all around the world (klick headline).
