Czech Geological Survey became member of the CO2GeoNet network of excellence

As a result of its successful participation in the CGS Europe international project, the Czech Geological Survey was accepted as a member of CO2GeoNet – The European Network of Excellence on the Geological Storage of CO2. The approval of the CGS’ membership is, at the same time, an acknowledgement of its long-term activity in this area, ranging from research activities in projects like EU GeoCapacity, TOGEOS, etc., to systematic efforts to raise general awareness of the CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) technology and disseminate relevant knowledge and information. In this context, especially the co-ordination of the European CO2NET EAST project (extension of CCS technology awareness to the region of Central & Eastern Europe) and running of the Czech national information portal on CCS technologies need to be mentioned.
CO2GeoNet, the membership of which CGS now enjoys, is an independent association of 24 leading research institutions from 16 European countries, dealing with all aspects of geological storage of CO2 and durably engaged in enabling the safe and efficient deployment of the CO2 Capture and Storage technology in order to mitigate climate change and ocean acidification. Its main activities comprise joint research, training and capacity building, scientific advice and providing unbiased and scientifically founded information.
