Chronostratigraphic and Paleoenvironmental Analysis of the Daleje Event in its Type Area: Implications for the Emsian (Early Devonian) Subdivision

This Earth and environmental science project investigates how major environmental perturbations affected marine ecosystems during the Early Devonian and how these changes are recorded in sediments, fossils, and geochemical proxies.
The project has two closely linked objectives: to reconstruct the environmental and biotic changes associated with the Daleje Event in its type area, the Prague Basin, and to provide new high-resolution biostratigraphic data relevant to the subdivision of the Emsian Stage. An integrated multidisciplinary approach combines conodont, dacryoconarid tentaculite, and palynomorph biostratigraphy with sedimentology, petrography, mineralogy, and geochemistry. Sections representing different depositional settings within the Prague Basin are studied to distinguish local environmental signals from those suitable for regional and global correlation. These data will also contribute to ongoing international efforts to refine the subdivision of the Emsian Stage.
The project is carried out jointly by research teams at the Czech Geological Survey and Masaryk University. The Czech Geological Survey is the lead institution, and the project is led by Stanislava Vodrážková as Principal Investigator (PI). Masaryk University participates as the co-applicant institution, with Tomáš Kumpan as co-investigator.
